The rapper reportedly died of an apparent overdose.
Mac Miller has died at the age of 26.
According to TMZ, he passed away from an apparent overdose on Friday, September 7. He was found at noon inside his San Fernando Valley home and pronounced dead at the scene.
"Malcolm McCormick, known and adored by fans as Mac Miller, has tragically passed away at the age of 26," his family said in a statement to Rolling Stone .
"He was a bright light in this world for his family, friends and fans. Thank you for your prayers. Please respect our privacy.
There are no further details as to the cause of his death at this time."
Real name Malcolm James McCormick, Miller began his career as part of the group The Ill Spoken, before releasing a number of mixtapes. He dropped his first album in 2011, "Blue Slide Park," which reached #1 on the charts. He'd go on to release four additional albums before his death and was scheduled to begin a tour next month.
Miller also produced and was featured on
Ariana Grande's hit 2013 single, "The Way." The two went public with their relationship in 2016, before splitting earlier this year.
He struggled with substance abuse, crashing his G-Wagon into a utility pole in May before getting arrested for DUI and a hit and run.
Grande made it clear his substance abuse issues were part of the reason they split.
After someone on Twitter blamed her for his downward spiral, she responded, "How absurd that you minimize female self-respect and self-worth by saying someone should stay in a toxic relationship."
"I am not a babysitter or a mother and no woman should feel that they need to be. I have cared for him and tried to support his sobriety and prayed for him for years," she added at the time.
"I will continue to pray from the bottom of my heart that he figured it all out and that any other woman in this position does as well."
In July, he responded to her surprising engagement to Pete Davidson by saying he was "happy" she was "moving forward with her life."
"It's strange. Like, the whole thing is a little strange but it's not negative," Miller said. "It's just a part of something that's going to continue to help make me who I am. You know, it's all positive energy.
I am happy for her and moving forward with her life just as I'm sure she is with me."
Grande posted a picture of Miller to her Instagram Saturday afternoon. Although she didn't caption the photo, her feet are featured in the pic.
